What to expect from therapy

Before Your First Visit: I work with most major insurance companies. If you would like to use your insurance it’s important for you to contact your insurance company before your first visit so you can determine your coverage and obtain any necessary referrals and authorizations. This will save you a lot of headaches.

Simply call customer service and check to see if I am on the panel of your insurance company. You should also ask if you need a referral from a physician, if you need authorization from your insurance company, how many visits you are allowed, and the amount of your copay (if there is one). They’re used to providing this information.

On the day of your first visit, please arrive at my office at least 15minutes before your scheduled appointment in order to fill out any required paperwork. If you are using insurance, please bring your insurance card with you.

You First Visit: Working with a counselor is a very personal decision. It’s important to make sure that you’re a good fit with your counselor. Your first visit gives us an opportunity to make sure we have the type of connection necessary to solve the problems you are facing.

In your first session we will determine what you want to accomplish in counseling and walk through a brief history of your life and the issues you feel are presenting difficulties for you.

Ongoing Sessions: Counseling sessions are 45 minutes. Toward the end of session I often give homework to help you become more aware of issues in your life or to provide practice for new behaviors. Doing this homework can accelerate the counseling process. If you have any questions as we work together, please feel free to ask me.
